Antique Glazed Stoneware Hartley's Jam Jars Pots
Antique Glazed Stoneware Hartley's Jam Jars Pots
A selection of Hartley's stoneware jam jars from the early 1900s. They are a beige-oatmeal colour and has an attractive ridged design. The ridge around the rim would have been used to secure string to hold a cloth covering in place.
William Hartley was well-known for making jams, marmalades and preserves with his business starting in Liverpool in the 1860s. Jams and preserves continue to be made under the Hartley name today. On the base there are embossed words 'NOT GENUINE UNLESS BEARING W.M HARTLEY'S LABEL' and 'W.P.HARTLEY LIVERPOOL & LONDON'.
These are great decorative items or can be used to hold cutlery, utensils or a posy of flowers.
The jars would have all been painted and glazed by hand, and most have minor are imperfections in the glazing. There is light wear and marks to this jar but no cracks. There is a small chip to the base of one of the jars.
