A small orjol from southern France dating to the mid-20th century. It has a rounded, bulbous body, short neck, and the characteristic arched handle that incorporates the pouring spout. A second loop handle balances the form opposite.
The surface is finished in a vibrant green glaze. Presented in good condition, with minor glaze losses, a few firing imperfections, and light wear consistent with age and use, these small irregularities are typical of handmade pottery and contribute to the individuality and rustic character of the piece.
A traditional vessel of southern France, the orjol was used for carrying and serving water. Its distinctive form combines practicality with sculptural appeal. The rich green glaze, traditionally coloured with copper oxides, was a hallmark of regional pottery and remains one of the most recognisable features of these everyday wares. Today, its lively colour and compact scale make it an eye-catching decorative accent. Display it on open shelving, a kitchen dresser, or a dining table, either on its own or filled with seasonal flowers or olive branches, where it brings warmth and unmistakable southern character to the home.
Both sides of the pot have been photographed.
