A charming large antique French walnut oil jar crafted from pottery in a weathered grey tone. An exquisite piece complete with double handle and incredible patina.
These jars were originally used to store walnut oil and were often dug in the ground, for which they are particularly known in Auvergne, France. This particular jar dates back to the early 18th century and is completely characteristic of these types of jar. A hugely decorative piece with nice patination.
Whilst this jar is in great vintage condition and it even has moss travelling up one side, there is a crack in the stoneware that runs straight through the base (please refer to photographs). It's still extremely sturdy and a truly fantastic decorative pot.
