A pair of Ancestor figures originating from the Adan tribe of the coastal region of Ghana/Togo. They represent a family member of ancestral lineage. Adorned with koalin and other mineral pigments to connect to the otherworld. They would have been placed in a personal alter with a group of other ancestor figures and other symbols of tribal life. The alter would have been kept in the rafters. The figures would have been washed once a year and the pigments reapplied demonstrating the care and relationship shown towards the ancestors. In turn they would have felt appeased and benevolent towards the family living below.
Now mounted on stands they make wonderful sculptural art in the home and are a truly unique talking point.
